Boston Dynamics has opened a facility inside Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia to train its Atlas humanoid robots for automotive manufacturing, bringing the robots closer to commercial deployment on factory floors. The Robotics Metaplant Application Center, located outside Savannah, will serve as a testbed for Atlas in real manufacturing environments, initially training robots to handle logistics and sequence automotive parts before delivery for assembly. Hyundai plans to begin full-scale Atlas deployment at the Metaplant in 2028, expanding to Kia AutoLand Georgia in 2029 and other production facilities thereafter. Boston Dynamics unveiled the production version of Atlas at CES 2026 and began manufacturing the robot at its Boston headquarters, with all Atlas deployments for 2026 already committed to Hyundai's RMAC and Google DeepMind. The company has also partnered with Google DeepMind to integrate Gemini Robotics foundation models with Atlas, and plans to move its Georgia operations into a facility roughly 10 times larger in 2027.
